Since reading skills and teamwork are key, kids around 9 and up can play on their own, but if the group is mixed in age, younger children can easily join a team with older players. How It Works

The game is played in our grapevineQUEST app. In the app, teams receive 100 different photo and video challenges, ranging from easy to tricky. The goal is to creatively capture what’s described in the challenge through photos or short videos.

The challenges vary a lot! Some are quick and simple, like snapping a photo of “Something delicious” or “A really funny face”. Others require teamwork, like “Build a free-standing straw tower at least one meter tall”, “The whole team sings ‘Happy Birthday’”, or “Two teammates pop a balloon by squeezing it between them”.

In The Birthday Challenge, many tasks focus on the birthday child, like:
🎈 “The whole team and the birthday child in a homemade party hat”
🎈 “Three things in the same color as the birthday child’s eyes”
🎈 “As many of something as the birthday child’s age”
🎈 “Something in the birthday child’s favorite color”
🎈 “The whole team showing how much they love the birthday child”

Some tasks are simple, while others are more challenging. Successfully completed challenges earn 10, 30, or 50 points, depending on the difficulty level.

The Role of the Game Leader

The game leader plays an important role in making the challenge run smoothly! Using a simple organizer site, the game leader approves or rejects completed tasks as they come in. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers—the game leader decides and is encouraged to reward the most fun and unique solutions. The game leader is the ultimate judge—and will definitely have a blast watching the action unfold!

Meanwhile, the app takes care of the time and scorekeeping automatically, so all you have to do is sit back, watch the hilarious submissions roll in, and decide which creative solutions deserve to be approved!

Who Can Play?

The birthday child can be any age—and can, of course, join a team—but should also be available for some photo and video tasks and to answer potential questions. This way, the guest of honor is not only at the center of attention but also gets to join in on the fun!

A Game of Strategy, Speed & Creativity

This isn’t just about completing all 100 challenges (that would be nearly impossible!). Instead, teams need to be strategic, picking the challenges they can complete fast and efficiently to maximize their points. Time is limited—we recommend playing for at least 60-90 minutes to allow for plenty of fun! However, the game leader can adjust the time anywhere between 30 to 150 minutes, depending on the group. Younger kids may prefer a shorter game, while older players might want to keep going longer!

The ideal team size is 4-6 players.

Where to Play?

The Birthday Challenge can be played almost anywhere but is best suited for indoor and outdoor home settings. Some challenges may be easier or harder depending on the location—but nothing is impossible! If a task seems tricky, teams just need to get creative and think outside the box.

What You’ll Need

To complete many of the challenges, you’ll need just three simple party essentials:

You’ll also need paper and pens. After that, just pick team names, scan each team’s QR code in the app, and you’re ready to go! Minimal setup—maximum fun!
